An island located across The Atlantic Ocean, with a long standing history of friendly indigenous people who have fought hard to preserve the heritage and independence of their homeland. Although, some have emmigrated and many have stayed, Ireland is connected through its people all over the world. The Danu Gallery brings a little piece of home, to the US.
Danu: the Goddess of Protection
Danu is the most ancient of the Celtic gods. She was a mother goddess. In this guise she represented the Earth and its fruitfulness. Rivers are associated with her, and represent the fertility and abundance in a land. It is suggested Danu had dual characteristics, one being the beneficent, nurturing mother goddess, and another being the strong, malevolent side of the warrior goddess. The root “dan” in ancient Irish means art, skill, poetry, knowledge, and wisdom.
